This week's theme is all about a fashion faux pas - things that are generally considered tacky, inappropriate, or otherwise bad to wear.

It's a DOUBLE ELIMINATION too!

This time, you need to be inspired by ONE THEME from the inspiration - and each one can only be done ONCE!  You CANNOT pre-claim anything, or use one someone else has already styled. It is only by submitting your finished outfit that the theme is yours. There are more than enough to have one per person, but the longer you wait, the less selection there will be.

DUE 24/02/18

Next Task Options:

  • Skiorts
  • NeckLines

The Themes:

Printed Socks + Sandal Shoes

The term "sandal" is a bit loose in this case, as we mean any open-toe shoe with two or more straps. They can be flat, heeled, or platformed it's up to you.

Sneaker Gowns

Love it or hate it, turning super formal, evening gowns into street wear involves more than just adding sneakers. Use a dress the falls below the knees, pair it with sneakers, and style them together for a casual day look.

Harem Pants

Occaisionally known as the "man diaper," these loose-flowing, oddly-low-crotched pants are often seen as the worst thing to ever come to fashion. The baggier, the better, for this theme!

Oversized Bags

You've already been criticized for the faux pas this cycle - but like silver and gold, maybe you can make it work? Again, the bigger the bag, the better for this theme.

First place is Louisa.Karemina - congrats! Sadly, we have to eliminate someone - and this week, it's Gingerzarah. Tied in second to last are Noismini & Mylife-notyours who both chose the next theme as Fashionism.

Myrthe - the outfits you made are still a little bit simple and you could have added more in my opinion. If you look at the three outfits as a whole, it's weird that you used the same jeans. A different jeans would have been a better choice. On your last outfit I like the socks you used and the sheer fabric over the jeans. However, I don't think it works great with the black fur jacket, I'm not a fan of it in combination with a short-sleeved t-shirt. Your first look is just okay.

Mirdith - Your first outfit, the one with the dress is pretty good. However, as Myrthe mentioned the last outfit just looks like the first one almost for using the same jeans. Overall, I see cohesion, but the squad does not transmit me a powerful fashion sense, just some girls hanging around.

Leigh - I'm not too into any of these I'm sad to say. They don't look like models on break or a pop group, more like what my friends look like on your average day, which is not really what we're looking for with this task. Using the same shoes is fine I guess, but the same pants as well just seems lazy when there's so many more floral things out there. And what on earth are you wearing a fur vest for?

Lucy - Last to judge, and I'm struggling to find something nice to say to be perfectly honest. The jean jacket is a nice idea but I don't get why you layered two skirts. And it's a major no to whatever that fur jacket is doing. I wouldn't have minded using the same pants and shoes if the rest of the looks had worked better.

Lovefotinh - 7.43

Myrthe -you can totally tell that these outfits belong together, since they have the same set-up: flowery shirt, jeans, some coloured heels, holding flowers, headpiece,...
It's almost copying the original outfit, but in a different way. You could say it's inspired, but that's just the way you look at it. I would have given you a higher score if the outfits were a little bit more different. However, they work well together and look like a girl's squad! I just miss a little bit of your own creativity in this.

Mirdith - I love the cohesion going on in your entry! Also it was a very special combo, and you managed to keep the combo in your two outfits still being different one from another. Nice job!

Lucy - I'm intruigued by the way you used the dresses. I don't hate it, don't love it, but I can see why you did it. The vibes across these are all very different, which I also don't mind. The shoes, however... something just is not working there.

Leigh - Last up, and I think everything is said. Don't like the shoes, and the could have just been more interesting if you mixed it up a bit (maybe using different sheer socks and jean shapes?) but I like that these look consistent shape-wise.

Louisa.Karemina - 8.562

Myrthe - Wow I love the colour use in those outfits and all of the prints! Your outfits look really well composed and are very stylish and modern. I love how you used another checked print if every item, they aren't the same but work very well together. Also nice touch to use an animal printed bag in every outfit! On your first outfit the jacket is placed a little bit weird, I think it had to be lower and there is some weird scarf think peeking out. But I do love the pants with that top and those shoes! On your second outfit (number 3 in the picture) I like the jacket the most. I do like the top, but I don't know if it fits the whole 'squad' result? I'm not sure about that.

Mirdith - This is what I consider a super cool squad! Amazing job! The common items on the outfits of the squad is unique and special and at the same time the outfits individually look very cool and fashion-forward!

Lucy - I like the various prints and textures you've used here, as well as the colour variety (which, if you've been paying attention, is often something I hate, so good job.) I think the devil's in the detail, though, because the jacket placement on the first look is all kinds of wrong, and I'm just not sure I like the shirt on look 2.

Leigh - The first look I think is my favourite, because the second one looks almost like more of a knockoff version of the original. I really like the prints and the various animal prints!

NOISMINI - 7.125

Myrthe - Pretty in pink! There is nothing I can see wrong with the colours you used here, they match very well. The outfits are all pale pink. I don't know if the combination of that sweater and that skirt is already made in the starplaza by Stardoll itself, I think it actually is. So the fact that these items already belonged together makes this outift less of an achievement. If you understand what I mean. I was going to say that the colours of the sweater and the skirt matched very well, but I guess they were made for each other by Stardoll itself. Your first outfit on the other hand, is very cute and girly. I'm a big fan of the shoes you used. Maybe to match your inspiration outfit some more, you could have used an even lighter tone of the pink (to match the pants) in your outfits some more.

Mirdith - Okay that is nice BUT too easy. It looks like a nice squad, I'm sure it will make heads turn around, but just for the super strong cohesion in the use of same colour, for the monochrome theme going on. I think you could have created more complex outfits still maintaining the pinkish nude colour.

Lucy - the pink tones are...fine. But there's just not much going on in any of these, and like Myrthe mentioned, the second outfit top-bottom combo were actually on a stardoll mannequin at one point, which is disappointing. On the second look, you do have a silver-gold mix on the handbag, in a good way, which is something the original look was criticized for, which is an interesting move on your part.

Leigh - I feel like, since you added white lace and shoes in the first look, you should have had more in the second so it didn't look so random. Like the others I'm just disappointed there's not a lot happening in either look.

Mylife-notyours - 7.125

Myrthe - intersting approach to remake the outfit but in different colours! The outfits you made are also very simple like your inspiration outfit. I wish you would have gone for something more exciting and more of a challenge. Some more layers, structure,... Your outfits are totally fine, it's not that I don't like them. The green outfits looks like something to wear on vacation in like Miami or something, maybe it's because of that print? i don't like the bag with it, it's too chic to combine with those pants. I also would have gone for different shoes here. Your yellow outfit is a little bit trendier and dressed up, that's probably because of the earrings, the sparkly top and the big necklace. The problem for me is that every outfit has a complete different vibe/style to it.

Mirdith I love how you kept the shape of the outfit to create two more looks to go with it. But, the look you chose was more elegant and fancy, while yours are more casual. They have some items that give me a tacky feeling and the outfit you got the inspo from does not transmit me that at all. The combo of yellow and gold was complicated. Maybe keeping it white and gold would have been a better option. And on the first one the bag is a bit distracting going in a total different colour.

Lucy - I also love the way you used the shapes, and went for different prints, colours and styles! They look like a real "squad" - most friends wear different prints and have different styles. I don't mind that they're a mix of casual and semi-formal because it reminds me of the old 90s girl bands and the way they often looked as a group. I do wish there could have been more layering going on, but then it may have been more difficult to match the overall shape.

Leigh - Oh, so hard to score this one! Like Lucy this reminds me of 90s and even early 2000s girl groups, like the way Spice Girls would dress sometimes in Sporty, Sexy and Fancy styles but still looking co-ordinated. Also like the others some texture or layers would have been nice, like a sheer body, which would have kept the shape overall the same.

*Image will be posted when Lucy gets home from work.

Me4evr - 6.93

Myrthe - Colour use is spot on here, white and yellow all over the place. It's hard to do this wrong I think; Since your inspiration only used those two colours. I like your second outfit a lot more than your first outfit. Looks more dressed up and business like. I like the jacket with those pants and the simple high heels. They look classy and professional. I'm not a fan of your first outfit, the dress looks tacky and those shoes with a dress like that are a no go for more. I do like the jacket and it would have looked so much better if you used other items with it!
Mirdith - Keeping the same colours was a good idea and I also like that the three outfits give me the same feeling, so... cohesion checked. First look is a bit random for me with those boots and the bag... I don't think they fit too much the look. Second outfit is very beautiful though. Elegant and business-like very much like the one from the inspiration.
Lucy  - Like the others, I think this colour combo would be pretty hard to mess up, and you didn't, which is good, just not a big achievement. And as you said, since the different tones are separate, it's similar but different while not really being an issue as it often is when on one outfit. Like the others, I think the accessories are a bit off - the first is very business, and then with casual boots and a backpack bag? And the second bag I think should be in the other hand.
Leigh - The words were taken from my head again! The accessories don't really do it for me either. The yellow tones are really well done and you didn't overuse them on either look which I think could have been very easy to do.

Sunday, 4 February 2018

For this task, you need to use another contestant's previous outfit. This can be from ANY cycle. The only outfits you cannot pick are those from the finales.

Check out cycle 1 HERE.
Check out cycle 2 HERE.
Or use an outfit current cycle - just scroll through the blog or archived posts. You cannot use your own outfit from ANY cycle, however.

You need to create two outfits that would look good with theirs - like a girl squad. We don't want to have you re-make their look, but instead, two outfits that would look good with the original one.

If using Imgur, please include the image of the outfit you are using. If not, please state the doll user, task and cycle it is from.

Since there were a lot of looks to get through, only Lucy and Leigh commented for everyone, though all 4 voted. There is, however, an added bonus this week - judges' outfits! Since this was such a hard task, we thought it fitting to show you what we would have done.

Of course, one person from the current group will be eliminated - and one previously eliminated person will take their place.

Lucy - Definitely 90s, definitely grunge. But also, the kind of look that would fit right into to a Tumblr blog. Because aesthetically, you've nailed it. The jacket is just a nice taste of softness in an otherwise decidedly grunge look. In terms of the outfit itself, I don't like the way the items are held - the glasses would have been better off on your head, and the hat looks like it's floating on the bag.

Mylife-notyours - 7.33

Lucy - I suspect you didn't notice the "casual" part of the description - but this is definitely steampunk and definitely pastel. I like the top, corset, neck piece and hat. Something is very wrong with that skirt and unfortunately you went VERY ott with the accessories.

lovefotinh - 8.25

Lucy - My instant issue is this - I'm having trouble figuring out what theme you went for. The sheer pieces and crosses suggest goth, but the round glasses, boots and chains suggest a not-so-90s grunge, or even punk chick. The only thing that's not going on here is Steampunk As a look, though, I do love it - the grey-purple sheer piece is layered well with all the intricate necklaces and belts.

Me4evr - 8.125

Lucy - This is clearly Femminine Goth, which is great. I love that you went for the soft pastel, ombre skirt which really fits the theme. The textured top is maybe a little much, and the open boots you can see the tights through is unfortunate.

Leigh - So, I know Lucy's tips said crowns were part of this theme, but it just doe not belong on this look at all. Like Lucy I like the skirt but not the top so much.

eve11149- 6.18

Lucy - You definitely struggled with the concept of this task, but you did get there in the end! Props for persistence. The soft blue top goes great with the grey pieces, and while I'm not personally fond of those shoes they do match the theme fine - but the gold/brown accessory items are throwing me off a bit.

Leigh - Yeah, definitely not a fan of the gold bits, I think the shapes of them work for the theme, like the shoes do, but not really the colours. But it's definitely grunge, and pastel!

Reckless_ThinG - 6.25

Lucy - Silver...with gold ... noooo. The fact you even had a close up of it in your album only makes it that much worse. I like that you risked the shorts-with-tights, because it worked out really well, and the accessories look decent too...just, not that bag!!!! And... you used someone else's doll, which is against the rules.

Leigh - Okay so I think Lucy covered it all. I'm not sure about the belt OR the bag myself, the belt just look proportionately wrong to be around the waist of bootyshorts and well, the gold bits on the bag were already mentioned.

GingerZarah - 6.81

Leigh - Pastel? Maybe up for debate with this. It's definitely a 90s Grunge look, no questions there but it just looks a little bit easy to me. I don't hate the pose but since it covers what's supposed to be the pastel element I have issues, maybe you should have added pastel platforms and glasses, that would have been ideal.

Lucy - Well, I'd almost call these "off white", and you covered them over almost too much to tell - but luckily for you, the socks clearly include pale pink and blue, so I'll let you off. I'm finding this a little difficult to judge because, like Leigh, I see it's definitely 90s Grunge but at the same time it's just very generic, I'm not seeing anything here I couldn't easily see scrolling through Spotlight pics.

Noismini - 7.75

Lucy - One can't use a corset without getting at least SOME approval from me!  Unfortunately, I'm not entirely convinced which theme you were going for here. Aesthetically, I like the jacket, and don't mind the bag, but they're confusing me as to what this look is supposed to be. You have, at least, nailed the pastel aspect.

Leigh - Oh, hmm, I guess this is Goth? Or the corset, dress and leggings are but the shoes and choker are grunge... and idk what that bag is doing. It's a nice outfit, I'm not super into the corset but it works with the jacket shape and the legging print. But what is it?

Cold_hearted - 4.93

Leigh - Is that skirt pink or off white? And the hair is grey... idk there's not exactly pastels here. The skirt kind of passes. The layers are nice, the bag and boots not so much.

Lucy - Leigh covered the theme issue. I do LIKE this look, the top layering is impressive and the skirt looks cool, it's rather unfortunate that this was submitted after I'd already mentioned the issue of cream not being a pastel.
